Who does not like them? Nobody! We all love them! (unless of course, you have a pollen allergy, They are naturally decorative and aesthetic creations of nature that bring beauty and joy. There are hundreds and thousands of varieties of flowers and many that we may not even know of. However, we have a range of ornamental beauties that most are familiar with, and use them to not just fill empty vases, but also hearts. So let’s look at some plants and flowers of botanical importance, and then see what they symbolize and how they can impact lives when brought indoors.

Flowers: What are they?

Flowers are reproductive structures found in most plants. Well, apart from the biology of plants and flowers, there is a lot more that flowers are associated with. Early man recognised the aesthetic function of flowers; the most important function that flowers have, however, is their power to convey profound human emotions and thoughts the way no other object can. Whenever your feelings are too intense for words – be it love, grief, happiness, or gratitude – try expressing them through the gift of flowers. You will find that, it will express your feelings perfectly.

Roses



We associate roses with love and romance. But little did we know that Roses are also associated with Venus’s immortal beauty. Red roses stand for love, desire and passion. White roses are associated with purity, innocence and peace and Pink roses display happiness. Yellow for friendship, and orange for healing and health.

Carnations

According to a Christian legend, carnations first appeared on Earth as Jesus carried the Cross. The Virgin Mary shed tears at Jesus’ plight, and carnations sprang up from where her tears fell. Thus the pink carnation became the symbol of a mother’s undying love. Carnation is also the birth flower for those born in the month of January. Light red carnations represent admiration, while the dark red denote deep love and affection. White carnations represent pure love and good luck, while striped (variegated) carnations symbolise regret that a love cannot be shared.
